The setting was a replica of a corporate advertising agency
and the location: Floor No.1 in Annapurna Studios. It was
a past noon and the climate was cool and pleasant in tune
with director Vijaya Bhaskar's method of extracting work from
the artistes and the crew. He was busy picturising the introductory
scene on the heroine for Annapurna Studio's latest venture.
Manmadhudu starring Akkineni Nagarjuna. Sonali Bendre and
new find Anshu.
Men and women engrossed in work in front of the computer tables
occupy the huge floor, which has a stage at the end and showcases
an advertisement of a popular brand of cosmetic on the walls.
Nagarjuna works as the manager in the company owned by his
uncle (played by Thanikella Bharani).
A woman-hater, due to reasons best known to him, he is piqued
by the presence of one more woman employee in the office and
argues with his uncle. Bharani convinces him by saying since
the majority of their clients is from the beauty and cosmetic
industry, they need to employ woman too, and he appoints Sonali
Bendre as an assistant manager. Nagarjuna has to concede and
steps out only to face the new assistant manager. Their first
meeting is not a pleasant one and the climate suddenly hots
up.
By the time this shot was okayed, it was launch time. Sonali
Bendre retires to the room allotted to her Nagarjuna just
smiles at us and invites the director for a ride in his car,
probably for some discussion about the scene canned or the
scene to be shot. The models and junior artistes, who played
the ad agency staff, chat among themselves, waiting for the
meal to be served outside the floor, as tables and chairs
are being arranged by the unit hands. Soon, Swapna Madhuri,
the newcomer who has bagged a few films as the heroine, joins
them for lunch. She plays a pivotal role in this film too.
On returning from his side with Nag, the director invited
us to his chamber. "This concept is new Telugu audience.
It was designed to suit Nagarjuna. There is a reason behind
his hatred towards women and how he was psyched up to that
state forms an interesting part. It is an out-and-out entertainer
with subtle sentiment sans melodrama and with a universal
appeal. We are introducing a new girl, London-based Anshu,
as the second heroine."
Others in the cast include Chandramohan, Balaiah, Brahmanandam,
Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, Ananth, Melkote and Sudha. The
technical team comprises of Trivikram (Story and dialogue),
Srinivasa Raju (art direction), Sameer Reddy (Cinematography)
and Srikar Prasad (editing). With B. Subba Rao as co-director,
Vijaya Bhaskar wrote the screenplay and directs the movie
for producer Akkineni Nagarjuna.
