The trailer of superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Vettaiyan The Hunter was dropped by the makers on Wednesday and it’s a Rajini show all the way.

The two-minute-forty-four-second long trailer opens with a massive protest with protesters demanding justice for a rape victim who has also been brutally murdered. At the same time they insist that cops arrest the rapist and murderer; in fact one of the protesters demands that the rapist be encountered. There’s pressure on the cops to nab the criminal while simultaneously maintaining law and order. As they scramble for ideas, the top cop (played by Rao Ramesh) believes that an encounter should happen within a week. On cue, we get to see cop Rajini who says, “One week is not necessary. In three days, the department will get a good name.” On the other hand, we are introduced to the legendary Amitabh Bachchan who advocates for justice and wants cops to follow a protocol. “Justice delayed is justice denied; justice hurried is justice buried,” he says. He also seems to express concern about the glorification of certain actions of cops, especially that of Rajini. There’s Rana who seems to be playing a big shot, while Malayalam heavyweight Fahadh Faasil plays a thief. Rajini is later shown to be on the lookout for someone who has a massive network. The rest of the trailer is dotted with high-octane action.

In conclusion, the trailer seems to paint a daring episode in the life of a dashing cop who battles for extrajudicial killings, while Big B plays someone who is at the opposite side of the spectrum, setting the stage for an ideological conflict between two icons. The drama and action is in equal measure, while Rajini adds his own flair to the titular character with Big B proving to be the ideal foil for him. Anirudh’s background score heightens the dramatic impact.

Written and directed by Jai Bhim fame TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan, produced by Lyca Productions, is all set to blaze into cinemas on October 10.
