Remember the character Imhotep, a cursed high priest with supernatural powers, in Hollywood box office smash The Mummy? With his scary demeanour and towering performance, Arnold Vosloo, a South African-born actor, made the role his own, going on to reprise the same part in The Mummy Returns as well. He later went on to do other Hollywood projects like Agent Cody Banks (2003), Blood Diamond (2006), Silverton Siege (2022), and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013).
While he has slowed down on the feature film front in the last decade or so, Arnold, however, has been a consistent presence on the American TV circuit, featuring in shows like 24, NCIS, Chuck, Bones, Elementary, Bosch, The Blacklist and Jack Ryan, and keeping himself busy. We now hear that he is Telugu cinema bound. Yes, our sources tell us exclusively that he will be a part of Vijay Deverakonda’s next with Rahul Sankrityan.
“Arnold will be playing a crucial supporting role in the film. While the nature of his role is under wraps, it will be something that he will be comfortable with. After Vijay’s part, it’s Arnold’s role that carries a ton of weight and Rahul is planning to unleash the beast in him. The actor is gung-ho about doing something in an industry which he is not familiar with. He is in the final round of discussions with the makers,” a source, well conversant with the development, told idlebrain.com.
Set in colonial India (1854-78), the untitled film, which is a production venture of Mythri Movie Makers, narrates the story of a short-lived hero, with a strong emotional core and scintillating action. The principal photography will kick off in January 2025.
