Actress Samyuktha Menon on Friday unveiled the trailer of Savaari director Sahit Mothkhuri’s next, Pottel and it promises a gritty period drama infused with a lot of elements that will make you uncomfortable.
A little over three minutes, the trailer opens with a shepherd (played by Yuva Chandra) along with his daughter falling at the feet of a school teacher (Srikanth Iyengar) and requesting him to impart education to his daughter. The setting is 1980s rural Telangana. We are soon introduced to Ajay who is regularly possessed by God and acts as a soothsayer. He also wields a considerable influence on the village. The trailer later cuts to a sacred sheep being stolen and the blame falls on Yuva. At one point, the whole village, at the behest of Ajay, turns against Yuva and tries to attack him but he somehow survives. Ajay seems to be against the idea of a girl child getting educated. There are other subplots involving Noel Sean and Chatrapati Shekar as well. How Yuva rises to the challenge seems to form the crux of the story.
Rounding up, the trailer promises a rollercoaster ride of emotions with action which is raw and drama that is absorbing while mirroring some controversial practices of the period gone by to perfection. It is a preview of what promises to be an exhilarating and thrilling drama set against the rugged landscape of the ‘80s. The lead actors keep the performances natural, while the background score reflects the culture of the region. Penchal Das’ song tugs at your heartstrings.
Also featuring Priyanka Sharma, Thanasvi Chowdary, Jeevan, Riyaz and Vikram, the film is a joint production venture between Nishank Reddy Kudithi of NISA Entertainments and Suresh Kumar Sadige of Pragnya Sannidhi Creations. Mythri Movie Makers is releasing it on October 25th.
