Writer-director Sandeep Reddy Vanga lavished high praise on Saahith Mothkhuri’s Pottel, which releases this Friday. “Firstly I heard the story (of Pottel); Saahith said he wrote the story set in a small set up but I felt the story span was big. I watched the film and liked it a lot; in particular I liked a couple of songs. The trailer is also good,” Sandeep raved. He was speaking at the pre release event of the film in Hyderabad on Monday.
He added that Ajay, who plays a grey character in the film, had him ‘scared’ with his performance while also listing out Yuva Chandra, Ananya Nagalla, Jeevan and Noel for their ‘superb’ performances. “I didn’t expect Saahith to craft the film this beautifully. In fact I wondered how he’d make it when he narrated the story but his producer Nishank believed in him. They (producers) need to have a certain sense of madness to have produced this film coming all the way from the US. I think they succeeded in it. It’s a film with a big heart. Audience will love it. The treatment is new. I don’t think young directors of the current lot made a film like this by going to a village. The last film I saw on such lines was Rangasthalam. I request the viewers to encourage small cinema,” Sandeep stated.
Pottel, which deals with a father’s fight to educate his girl child while battling many societal norms back in the day, including a formidable adversary, also features Priyanka Sharma, Thanasvi Chowdary, Riyaz and Vikram in supporting roles. Mythri Movie Makers is releasing it.
