Pooja Hegde has taken the mantle of promoting her May 1st release Retro in Telugu and as part of promotions, she interacted with idlebrain.com exclusively. When asked about her long absence from Telugu cinema, she had this to say: “There’s this thing called Ikigai, which means finding your purpose and doing what makes you happy. And recently I was doing my process of finding my Ikigai and I discovered that I was following it. I genuinely live and breathe films. I think we need to have more films for women out there. Films that tell stories of women. Because growing up it's important to have idols–either you watch a film and feel like ‘I’m like this person’ and ‘I’m not alone’ or then I want to watch a film and be inspired by that person. So both need to happen and we need more of that in Indian cinema.
“I know many people are making films and I hope it comes my way. If anyone is watching this (smiles), please give me those kinds of films. I want to go to the set and be excited about what I’m doing, which is why there has been a gap. I think it’s important as artists that we need to be allowed to fail because that’s the only time we get to do something new. If I continue to do the same kind of role, I’ll get bored and you’ll get bored. I hope I can bring something new. I think Rukmani (her character in Retro) is a fresher take on what we can do,” she stated.
Produced under Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Entertainment in collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films, Retro, an actioner, where Suriya plays a gangster, opens in cinemas on May 1st. Sithara Entertainments is distributing the film in Telugu. Karthik has wrote and directed the film.

మే 1న తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు రానున్న ‘రెట్రో’ సినిమాను ప్రమోట్ చేస్తూ, హీరోయిన్ పూజా హెగ్డే idlebrain.com కి ఇచ్చిన ఎక్స్‌క్లూజివ్ ఇంటర్వ్యూలో ఆసక్తికర విషయాలు పంచుకున్నారు. చాలా కాలంగా తెలుగు సినిమాల్లో కనిపించకపోయిన విషయం గురించి మాట్లాడుతూ, ఆమె ఇలా అన్నారు:
“ఇకిగాయ్ అనే ఒక కాన్సెప్ట్ ఉంది. అది అంటే, మన జీవితానికి అర్థం ఉండే పని చేసుకోవడం, మన హృదయాన్ని తృప్తిపరచే పని చేయడం. ఇటీవలి కాలంలో నేను నా ఇకిగాయ్‌ను వెతుక్కుంటూ ఉండగా, నన్ను నేను అర్థం చేసుకున్నాను — నేను నిజంగా సినిమాల కోసం బతుకుతున్నాను.
మహిళల కోసం రూపొందించే సినిమాలు ఇంకా ఎక్కువగా రావాలి అనిపిస్తోంది. ఎందుకంటే చిన్నపిల్లలుగా పెరిగేటప్పుడు మనకు ఆదర్శాలు అవసరం — ఒక సినిమాలో చూసి ‘నేను కూడా ఇలానే ఉన్నాను’, ‘నేను ఒంటరిగా లేను’ అనే భావన రావాలీ, లేదా ‘ఈ పాత్రలా నేనూ కావాలి’ అని స్పూర్తి పొందాలి. ఇవి రెండూ అనుభవించాలి. అలాంటి మహిళా కథలతో కూడిన సినిమాలు మన ఇండియన్ సినిమాకు చాలా అవసరం.”
అలాగే పూజా తన అభిరుచుల గురించి మరింతగా చెప్పింది:
“ఇప్పుడు చాలా మంది మంచి సినిమాలు చేస్తున్నారు. అలాంటి సినిమాలు నాకు కూడా రావాలని ఆశిస్తున్నాను. ఎవరన్నా ఈ ఇంటర్వ్యూ చూస్తుంటే (నవ్వుతూ) — దయచేసి అలాంటి కథలతో నా దగ్గరకి రండి. నేను షూటింగ్‌కి వెళ్లినప్పుడు ఉత్సాహంగా ఉండాలి అనుకుంటున్నాను — అందుకే ఈ గ్యాప్ వచ్చింది.
ఒక ఆర్టిస్టుగా మనకు ఫెయిల్ అయ్యే ఛాన్స్ కూడా ఉండాలి. అప్పుడే కొత్తగా ఏదైనా చేయగలం. అదే రోల్స్ మళ్లీ మళ్లీ చేస్తూ ఉంటే, నాకు కూడా బోర్, మీకూ బోర్. అందుకే ప్రతి సినిమాలో కొత్తదనం తీసుకురావాలనుకుంటున్నాను. ‘రెట్రో’లోని రుక్మిణీ పాత్ర కూడా అలాంటి ఓ ఫ్రెష్ టేక్ అని భావిస్తున్నాను.”
